Daniel explains that a new leader will emerge in the United States, as King of the North.
The one who comes against him will do as he pleases, and no one will be able to stand against him; he will also stand in the Glorious Land, but with destruction in his hand (Dan 11:16).This powerful leader who destroys ISIS will fully commit himself to supporting Israel. Unlike previous leaders who have tried to be fair to both sides, he will be totally committed to supporting Israel. He does what he pleases, ignoring pressure from other nations and flouting the decisions of international organisations. Donald Trump’s decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is an expression of this resolve. Daniel explains that this political leader will achieve two main things for Israel.
The first thing he did was to commit the full power of his nation to establishing his peace plan. This probably refers to the peace plan being prepared by Jared Kushner, who is Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
He will set his face to come with the power of his whole kingdom, bringing with him a proposal of peace which he will put into effect (Dan 11:17a).
Some English translations describe this peace proposal as “equitable conditions”, but this will be a claim, not a reality. The leader will be determined to “put this plan into effect”. Trump's peace plan could be a fulfilment of this word if he continues to push it.The second thing this leader does is establish an alliance between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
And he shall give him a daughter in marriage to corrupt her; but she shall not stand, neither be for him (Dan 11:17b).
These nations both have a relatively small population, so they rely on strong military power for their security. They both have an alliance with the United States. The president will lead them into an alliance in an attempt to bring peace to the Middle East peace (In traditional cultures, alliances were cemented by marriage of sons and daughters). However, Saudi Arabia will not stand with him for long. She will stop supporting him.
This leader will strengthen the US alliance with Saudi Arabia. The US sent a few thousand troops to support Saudi Arabia's missile defence, following a successful Houthi drone attack against Saudi infrastructure. Unfortunately, tension between the two nations will increase and the US relationship with Saudi Arabia will be disrupted.
