The distinction, which is often made, between a teaching elder and a ruling elder has no basis in the Scriptures. The distinction comes from a false understanding of teaching. Every elder should be a teacher. This is confirmed by the apostle Paul who says that every elder must be "able to teach" (1 Timothy 3:2).
