Desert Storm

When Iraq invaded Kuwait, the United States joined together with a coalition of nations to defeat Iraq. They drove the Iraqi army out of Kuwait in a mighty display of military power. Air superiority was important to the success of the army. This battle called Desert Storm was prophesied in Daniel 11:9.

Then the king of the North will invade the realm of the king of the South, but will retreat to his own country.

This describes an army invading the Middle East, but withdrawing quickly. This is what happened in 1991. The coalition forces quickly pushed the Iraqi Army out of Kuwait and advanced into Iraq. They inflicted enormous casualties on the Iraqi forces, but President George Bush (Snr) decided not to destroy Saddam Hussein, so the army quickly withdrew before Baghdad had been taken.

From that time,Iraq was dominated by the United States. The US Air Force controlled a no-fly zone over much of Iraq. However, despite this and severe trade sanctions, they were not able to depose Saddam Hussein.  Desert Storm was an incomplete invasion.
